Since its creation, SOMME has accumulated more than 25 years of recorded acoustic measurements in different parts of the world (Arctic, St Lawrence estuary, Atlantic, Channel, and Mediterranean areas), with a wide range of acquisition systems.

Various acquisition protocols, developed to carry out acoustic monitoring in different marine environments, are regularly performed to meet the objectives of the studies.

Our experience in the realization of in situ acoustic measurements, allows us to promote the acquisition of quality data, by adapting the deployment methods to local conditions (maritime activities, oceanic weather conditions), while remaining as quiet as possible.

Fixed point recording

The deployment on the seabed (on tripod) of autonomous acoustic recorders allows to carry out long-term passive acoustic monitorings. These monitorings provide information on the studied ecosystems through post-processing analysis of the soundscape (ambient noise, marine mammals detection).

Occasional acoustic measurement

Quick to perform, occasional recordings from ships or with drifting buoys, are used to characterize the sounds emitted by works and other maritime activities (drilling, trenching, maritime traffic, etc.), to study the spatial variability of the ambient noise or to evaluate acoustic propagation losses in an environment.

Real-time acoustic monitoring

Acoustic measuring buoys equipped with data transmission systems are used to continuously record the soundscape and monitor in real-time different metrics characterizing it (sound levels). These buoys are ideal for monitoring noise generated by maritime activities.
